Dick Oatts and I played together for 20 years with the Mel Lewis Band which later became the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. We were musical and personal kindred spirits from the very beginning. We've played hundreds if not thousands of concerts together at the Village Vanguard in New York and on tour around the World. We've also played in each other's bands on concerts and recordings throughout the years. This concert is our first exploration into the pianoless quartet format. (Ed Neumeister)
