Karbido’s The Table is a world-class musical project, an out-and-out instrumental avant-garde that proves that an unlimited imagination poses no limits to music. Last Thursday the Wroclaw Firley Club was crammed to capacity. Surprisingly, the stars of the evening were not amplifiers, electric guitars or drums, but—an ordinary, rectangular, wooden table. The lights go down. Silhouettes of four exquisite poker players in black suits emerge from the dark and sit around the table. The show begins. It is not a game of poker, though, but a fantastic quartette performed on the table. For two months, in the assistance of luthiers, carpenters and sound designers, the musicians worked on their invention, the astounding transformation of a piece of furniture into a potent musical instrument, in order to finally come out with a table stuffed with ultra-sensitive devices capable of detecting and amplifying the most delicate vibrations and transforming them into sounds that create an electrifying one-hour-long concert, subtitled as „A Maple Swish-And-Shush, Or a Piece For Four Men And a Table“.
