Die Musikwelt wurde auf ihn aufmerksam, als Chris Minh Doky 1989 nach New York übersiedelte und 1991 von Mike Stern engagiert wurde. Danach folgten Auftritte mit den Brecker Brothers, David Sanborn, John Scofield und Bill Evans. Mit seinem Bruder, dem Pianisten Niels Lan Doky gründete Chris Minh Doky 1994 die Doky Brothers, die 2 Alben veröffentlichten. Als Bandleader veröffentlichte er seit 1989 zehn Alben, zuletzt das Live-Album The Board Tapes.
Weltklasse auch die Besetzung der Band: Dean Brown zählt aktuell zu den funkigsten Gitarristen der Jazz-Szene, George Whitty beweist an den Keyboards, warum er sowohl als Musiker wie auch als Produzent mit einem Grammy ausgezeichnet wurde.
