The David Murray Quartet is one of the best groups that performed at the Village Vanguard during the 80s and 90s. Today Murray combines hard swing with his exceptional tone, his melodic ideas and the unconventional approaches that his reputation is built upon. In that context, Murray is able to go in just about any direction with the confidence that his musicians can make the transitions with complete authority. There's no hesitation, lack of force, or fear or subtlety. One can hear David Murray at his best and watch him testing his abilities within a group that allows absolute freedom of expression.
