"...an uncommonly literate and lyrical singer...Frank's songs sit comfortably between jazz and singer-songwriter artpop, comparable in approach and quality to the work of acclaimed young artists such as Becca Stevens and Gretchen Parlato. Her cool, plainspoken vocal delivery makes some listeners hear her music as "folk", but the subtle rhythmic variations and harmonic approach betray her roots in jazz." (Will Layman, Popmatters)
Depending on when you walk in on a song, Emma Frank's music might sound like folk or jazz, even R&B. It's music that never stays put, full of moving parts, shifting tempos and winding melodies. Her new album, Ocean Av, featuring Aaron Parks, Jim Black, Rick Rosato and Franky Rousseau, is due out February 2018 on Susan Records.
Emma's heartfelt songs are journeys of self-discovery, framed by insightful lyrics and her warm, gossamer voice that Leif Vollebekk describes "like leather on silk." Emma Frank has performed at Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, at NXNE, Pop Montreal, and the Toronto Jazz Festival.
