Jure Pukl's Doubtless feat Melissa Aldana / Joe Sanders & Greg Hutchinson (SLO/CHL/USA)
Internationaly acclaimed and globaly respected saxophone player/composer Jure Pukl presents his new album DOUBTLESS. This is a rare double tenor saxophone record with Pukl and the Chilean saxophonist Melissa Aldana, the winner of Thelonious Monk Competition 2013. Rhythm section consists of two world class players/artists; the double bass player Joe Sanders and drummer Gregory Hutchinson. In a completely acoustic setting without a harmonic instrument, with a small production that is associated with the late fifties and early sixties of the last century, Pukl at the moments evokes the sound of early Ornette Coleman. On the other hand, in the arrangements and approaches to solos, the Slovenian born - NYC based saxophonist is an unmistakably musician of the 21st century and his playful and strong bound with Aldana has universal jazz and improvised music values: a combination of deep sound, virtuosity, harmonic and rhythmic creativity.
“Jure Pukl & Melissa Aldana play as one throughout and with the support of Joe Sanders and Greg Hutchinson the music is rich with a passionate expression that is timeless. Jure put together a beautiful recording that flows like the wind”.
Joe Lovano, NYC 2017
