Matthieu Mazué Trio & Michaël Attias 'Monoliths and Screens for Quartet'

Matthieu Mazué: piano
Michaël Attias: saxophone
Xaver Rüegg: bass
Michael Cina: drums

Since 2019, the trio led by pianist Matthieu Mazué has been enchanting European stages with its music. After the success of their debut album in 2021 and various awards they received (ZKB Jazz Preis, Jazz Beet Competition, NOVA Jazz Composition...), the group returns in 2023 with a new work released under the banner of the Jazzdor Series label.

With "We Stay Still," the trio pushes its boundaries and weaves a subtle balance between tradition and innovation. The compositions, infused with emotional depth, evoke vivid images and thrilling sensations. This new repertoire harmoniously blends poetry and unique sonic landscapes. Each piece is a bold exploration that transcends genre boundaries and offers an intense musical experience.

Since 2022, the trio has joined forces with saxophonist Michaël Attias. The now quartet has already performed on major jazz stages in Europe, such as the Jazzdor festivals in Strasbourg and Berlin. The four musicians explore original compositions together. The music is constantly diverted by collective improvisations and the explosive individualities that make up the ensemble. The repertoire titled "Monoliths and Screens for Quartet" is a winding path where unleashed melodies intertwine with serene soundscapes.

"Piano jazz that doesn't invite you to fall asleep: young, fresh, from Switzerland, and unafraid of abstraction." Ulrich Stock, Die Zeit, November 2022
"And Mazué, Cina, and Rüegg surprise not only with the stoic patience of their youth but also with their fine mechanics in handling energy." Rudolf Amstutz, February 2023
