Kein Geringerer als der legendäre Bossa-Nova-Pionier Antonio Carlos Jobim erkannte das immense Talent von João Bosco als einer der ersten. Und ohne Bosco wäre die brasilianische Populärmusik um einige ihrer schönsten Kompositionen ärmer. Mit schlafwandlerischer Sicherheit balanciert der 1946 im brasilianischen Bundesstaat Minas Gerais geborene Sänger, Gitarrist und Komponist durch ein Repertoire, das vielseitiger nicht sein könnte: Er kennt sich aus in Samba und Merengue, fügt einige Takte George Gershwin ein oder formt Ausschnitte aus Ravels «Boléro» zu einem Scat-Stück um.
