Stahl/Waelti/Jardim/Zambito
Pianist Luca Zambito and saxophonist Moritz Stahl from Munich present a top-class formation with Andreas Waelti on bass and drummer Matheus Jardim, both of whom are very active both in the Viennese jazz scene and beyond.
An exchange between two cities and their sound is created by Zambito's and Stahl's compositional approaches, which are given new impulses and improvisational directions by the Viennese rhythm section.
Moritz Stahl and Luca Zambito, both winners of the BMW Young Artist Jazz Award and the Young Munich Jazz Prize, are active in various bands in German-speaking countries, such as the Nils Kugelmann Trio and the Jazzrausch Bigband. Both are also bandleaders and compose their own music for their projects, the Luca Zambito Quartet and the Moritz Stahl Quintet. Vienna-based Matheus Jardim is one of the most sought-after drummers of his generation in Austria and bassist Andreas Waelti has become a driving force in the progressive Austrian music scene.
Together they create worlds of sound that are sometimes full of compositional structure, and then again, interwoven with interactive links, create the space in the moment that is needed for improvisation. The music ranges from delicate and impressionistic sounds to explosive moments of flow that captivate and inspire the listener.
Voice of Colors
The formation was born from the friendship of international musicians who met at one of the most renowned jazz institutions, Berklee College of Music. One of them is the virtuoso Italian musician Daniel Camarda on bass, who has performed with Avishai Cohen among others, the Polish jazz pianist Piotr Wyleżoł, and the Slovakian Martin Valihora, who is considered one of the most sought-after drummers in Europe. On this evening, the trumpet playing of Kornél Fekete-Kovács enriches the already colorful art of this group. (Press release)
