David Linx & Marcel Powell
Marcel Powell is a virtuoso on the six-string guitar. On the album "Parceria", he arranges compositions by his father Baden Powell (1937-2000), honors his 86th birthday and shows how alive and relevant the musical legacy of the Brazilian guitarist remains. As his father's only pupil, the son follows in his footsteps and enchants the audience. He was born in Paris in 1982 and has recorded ten albums as a composer, including two with his father and his brother, the French-based pianist Philippe Powell.

David Linx is a Belgian jazz and chanson singer, composer and lyricist. He studied drums and worked as a drummer with the American jazz singer Mark Murphy, which motivated him to start singing himself. Together with a group of musicians, including Pierre Van Dormael and Slide Hampton, he made a recording in 1996 with the American writer and activist James Baldwin, who recites poems on this album. Over the years, David Linx has recorded various duo albums with pianist Diederik Wissels. He has also recorded with Toots Thielemans, guitarist Tam De Villiers' quartet, pianist Ivan Paduart's quartet and the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, among others.
Linx was a guest with the pianist in the series that we organized at the Exil in the Radiokulturhaus - that was in 1999. Now the fantastic singer returns with the Brazilian guitar legend. Welcome back! CH

David Tronzo & Peter Herbert
David Tronzo possesses a compelling and original guitar sound which stems from his use of the "processed slide- guitar," slide guitar, and dobro in eclectic musical settings. He plays his highly-individual slide-guitar stylings in jazz, blues, rock, funk, and avant garde settings often producing exciting and original sounds. Musician Magazine has ranked David Tronzo, who often goes by Tronzo, as one of the top 100 guitarists of all time. He has released several sessions as a leader, is a member of Knitting Factory super-group Spanish Fly, and he continues to be in demand as a session player. (Wilson McCLoy)
Peter Herbert's compositional approach can be derived from two points of view: firstly, to write music that comes from the improvisational side, i.e. to realize music that one hears (oneself) and would realize ad hoc as an improvising musician, quasi composing as a player, and secondly, to write music that the performers also enjoy playing, again with reference to being an interpreter themselves. The integration of improvised passages into or over through-composed structures is also an important aspect. Influences in the broadest sense of Charles Ives, Gunther Schuller, Morton Feldman, George Crumb, Luigi Nono, Adyin Esen and Frank Zappa. (press release)
"Segments" is the title of a duo recording from 1997, which we presented in 2002 as part of our portrait of Peter Herbert. Time to prolong this wonderful collaboration!
