Multifaceted and with great music, the Lungau Big Band is heading into its forty-second year!

It is extremely rare for a jazz orchestra to exist for such a long period of time, to continuously come up with interesting programs, to present renowned soloists from all over the world and to invite composers to write new music.

As a result, the Lungau Big Band has developed into one of the most active and remarkable jazz ensembles in the country, not only delighting audiences with a wide variety of programs, but also keeping itself in an infectious playing mood with a wide range of musical challenges!

The list of previous guests and all the great memories associated with them is long. Here are just a few: Hubert von Goisern, Nils Landgren, Josh ́Socalled ́ Dolgin, Randy Brecker, Gunhild Carling, Bobby Shew, Angela Tröndle, James Morrison, Jiggs Whigham, Tony Momrelle, Bob Mintzer, Michael Abene ....
With her roots in gospel and a jazz-influenced voice, Chanda Rule has been telling stories through music since childhood. She began her career in musical theater, performing in a variety of productions including the Hudson Shakespeare Company in New Jersey, regional tours and Hair, The Musical in Amsterdam and Milan. Her voice has a flexibility and range that has enriched a variety of musical projects: from Sapphire Dreams, recorded with Kirk Lightsey, Feeling Good: A Tribute to Nina Simone with Donny McCaslin and gospel festivals and workshops with the Golden Gospel Singers to appearances as a singer on ARTE Concert, Ö1 Jazznacht and Dancing Stars on ORF. Chanda Rule has also opened for India Arie, Kamasi Washington, Amel Larrieux, Angela Bofill, Regina Belle & The Whispers. She is a published author and host of The Courageous Voice podcast. Chanda Rule is a storyteller who uses narrative and music for community building and communal healing. Since October 2024, she has held a professorship for singing at the Institute for Popular Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

She sang with the Lungau Big Band for the first time in October 2023 at the 40th anniversary concert at the Grosses Salzburger Festspielhaus. For the current program, Chanda and the Lungau Big Band present their own compositions as well as new arrangements of classics from the Great American Songbook. Don ́t miss the show!
