Ukandanz transports us to another world with their timeless reflection on Ethio-Jazz. As their name suggests (“you can dance”), their untamed music—at once subtle and wild, which they dub “Ethiopian Crunch”—induces ecstatic trance. This high-energy quintet fuses explosive polyrhythms with progressive rock, punk, and experimental sounds, shaped by years of intense live performances. At the heart of the band is iconic vocalist Asnake Gebreyes from Addis Abeba. His powerful, evocative voice draws from the ancient musical traditions of his Ethiopian homeland. With their new program from the upcoming album Evil Plan (April 2025), Ukandanz captivates audiences worldwide once again, blending Ethiopian tradition with contemporary interpretation in a spellbinding way.
