We come from a time when the benchmark for young musicians was to master "jazz standards", in short, to be able to improvise on a musical form and sometimes complex chords and then, building on that, to develop their own style. Glen and I immersed ourselves in this almost 30 years ago and played together almost every day, regardless of whether we had a concert or not - there was simply nothing else we would rather have done. When we saw each other again after three decades, the connection we had formed was immediately there again, as if we had just been on vacation.
Glen Fisher: Relationships are interesting. Musical relationships are even more interesting. Sometimes you encounter musicians that strive for the same things you strive for. When I encounter such an artist it’s a wonderful thing. Pauli is a special musician. Gifted and versatile. We played Jazz together when we were in our 20’s. When we weren’t playing, we were hanging out, asking each other the questions that young jazz musicians ask. He became my musical partner and my intellectual partner. Now, 30 years later, I am reunited with my partner, doing what we love. Jazz. This record is all Pauli’s arrangements and several of his original compositions, and it is a wonderful example of his prolific creativity. ENJOY.
Reinhardt Winkler, with whom I have also been playing for more than ten years, immediately fitted in perfectly. His very own touch and his unmistakable sound and style are characteristic of the band's sound. Ilse Riedler, just like us, has no fear of contact when making music, it can be beautiful, but also abstract, very complicated, but also very simple. We present the two albums "Standards-Volume 2-The Trio" and "Standards Volume 3-The Quartet".
