The 22nd KlezMORE Festival Vienna kicks off with a special opening concert at the renowned jazz club Porgy & Bess.

"UMRU / unrest" is the latest, boldest and most mature album by acclaimed songwriter and Yiddish troubadour Daniel Kahn. Born in Detroit and now living in Hamburg, he brings us a collection of songs both original and ancient, translated and recomposed. They are his alarming manifesto for radical Yiddish autonomy. These songs tell of a powerful diaspora - tearing down flags, subverting borders, denouncing oppression and celebrating freedom. They are simultaneously tender and lost, irreverent, broken and explosive. The album completes a trilogy: after his solo album Word Beggar from 2021 and the duo The Building & Other Songs from 2023 with the legendary violinist Jake Shulman-Ment, he now adds a third companion: Christian Dawid, the master multi-instrumentalist from Berlin, who enriches the album with clarinets, saxophone and percussion.
