...An abrupt change of tempo with piano staccato, saxophone interludes, and drum rolls ultimately convinces the good-natured CD buyer that this is not a conventional piano trio, but rather a trio of musicians who are well-versed in the techniques of editing and collage, with an almost subversive attitude, whose leader, Hannes Löschel, also proves to be an intelligent composer... (From the jury's statement on the awarding of the 1997 Hans Koller Prize for “Album of the Year”)
Unconventional ideas and unbridled richness of sound – this is what won the Löschel/Skrepek/Zrost trio the Hans Koller Prize in 1997 for their first album, “While You Wait.” Two endless decades later, pianist Hannes Löschel, drummer Paul Skrepek, and saxophonist Martin Zrost have reunited – and (inevitably?) won again, this time the Ö1 Pasticcio Prize. Their second album tells the immensely imaginative story of the voyage of the indomitable ship “Waldorf Hysteria” – between shoals and monsters, nonsense and entertainment. (Johann Kneihs, 2018)
LSZ was founded in 1995, which is why the age reference in the band's name seems well-founded. Of course, this also serves as an argument for a big musical birthday party. Böses Moos! CH
