W E N D E Z E I T - the new album and the associated concert series by dulcimer player Maria Ma are very personal instrumental narratives about eternal change, life and death. The compositions are inspired by the overtone-rich sound of the hammered dulcimer, nature, encounters, journeys and stories. With her PUR Ensemble, Maria Ma weaves floating soundscapes with complex rhythms and occasionally lets her musical roots shine through. (Press release)

Maria Ma has been playing the hammered dulcimer since early childhood. Her creative approach to this ancient stringed instrument, which is thought to have its roots in Persia, repeatedly opens doors to musical projects in a wide range of genres. In 2014, Christian Kolonovits produced her CD "Holy Nine" and made it clear to a wide audience that the hammered dulcimer does not have to sound like folk music. Maria Ma created the music for the multi-award-winning Ö1 radio play "Märzengrund" by Felix Mitterer, made guest appearances at SCURDIA, experiments with her world grunge project MaWieHold! and plays alongside Austro-pop legends such as Gert Steinbäcker, Ulli Bäer and Wolfgang Ambros. Her double album "Begegnungen" featured musicians such as pianist Markus Schirmer and cellist Valerie Fritz. In 2024 she made her debut with Maria Ma PUR at the Wiener Konzerthaus. (press release)
