Harri Stojka's ROAD SHOW – an evening full of musical energy, virtuosity, and improvisation.
Harri Stojka, one of the most influential musicians on the Austrian jazz, rock, and world music scene, has been synonymous with cross-genre diversity and authentic sound for decades. With his first band, the “Harri Stojka Express,” he initially played rock jazz and even reggae in the 1970s, before his style increasingly turned to bebop and modern jazz.
In 1978, his first maxi single was released – supported by his father – with the song “Jungle,” sung by Hansi Lang. The success earned him a record deal with Warner Music. His album “Off the Bone” was a surprise hit and led to an appearance at the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival. This was followed by albums such as ‘Camera’ (1981), whose title track “How much I love you” was later released as a remix by Action Bronson in the US (title: “TANK”).
In the 1980s, Harri Stojka collaborated with numerous jazz greats. His LP “Brother to Brother” (1984), live recordings from the Kulisse in Vienna (1987), and a concert recording from the Metropol in Vienna (1990, ORF) mark the highlights of this era.
In the 1990s, he embarked on a musical and personal journey back to his roots: together with his father Johann “Mongo” Stojka, he released two albums in the Romani language – “Amari Luma” (“Our World”) and “Newi Luma” (“New World”). From 2000 onwards, he intensified his exploration of Roma music, which culminated in the 2010 documentary “Gipsy Spirit – Harri Stojka, a Journey” – a moving search for the cultural roots of his people in India.
Harri Stojka's ROAD SHOW is a cross-section of his impressive musical life's work – and more: Look forward to songs by Jimi Hendrix, instrumental Beatles pieces, Roma songs, and many well-known compositions by Harri Stojka himself.
With his legendary Gibson Les Paul guitar, Stojka transports his audience into a world of improvisation, energy, and deeply felt music. (Press release)
