The melody of Joe Zawinul’s composition “In a Silent Way” plays a central role on Harry Sokal’s new live album, Groove Unlimited – “I Remember Joe”—a piece that also inspired Miles Davis to release his own version.
Floating sounds and grooves, infused with pulsating energy, lead the listener on an unforgettable journey and open up new horizons for boundless, heartwarming adventures. These elements can be found throughout Harry Sokal’s compositions on this new live album, offering us a deep experience of new dimensions and freedoms within the spontaneous music of the moment.
Renowned for his groundbreaking trio projects, Harry Sokal has launched a new jazz formation with Groove Unlimited, continuing his gift for rhythmic feel while celebrating complex structures in his improvisations.

Jojo Lackner contributes precisely placed bass lines with impressive technique, lending the trio an unmistakably electrifying groove. Drummer Herbert Pirker, one of the busiest musicians on the scene, enriches the trio with his dynamic and technically perfect playing, bringing ecstatic, trance-like rhythms to the music.

Groove Unlimited stands for pulsating performances that masterfully fuse elements of jazz, funk, rock, and fusion. With his energetic playing style and virtuosity—qualities that also defined legends like John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, and Wayne Shorter—Harry Sokal knows how to catapult the trio into a shared, boundless musical journey, often surprising even himself in the process.
