In May 2026, British saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Emma Rawicz will come to Vienna to collaborate with the MUK.jazzorchestra. The project marks both her big band debut in Austria and her first appearance in Vienna. Together they will present a multifaceted program of Rawicz's original compositions for jazz orchestra—music that transcends stylistic boundaries and combines influences from a wide variety of directions: from the orchestral soundscapes of big band greats such as Kenny Wheeler, Maria Schneider, and Nikki Iles to groove-oriented rock elements and folk melodies to classical music and singer-songwriter atmospheres.
Rawicz began her big band career by founding, directing, and organizing her own 20-piece jazz orchestra based in the UK. This was quickly followed by composition commissions from internationally renowned radio big bands, including the UMO Jazz Orchestra Helsinki and the WDR Big Band. She now works with students in the jazz department of the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK) – an encounter that promises inspiring and thrilling musical moments.
