In recent years, the versatile singer Ethel Merhaut has devoted herself intensively to the repertoire of the 1920s and 1930s. Trained in classical singing, she now consciously moves between chanson, light music, and jazz, viewing this music not as a nostalgic look back, but as living material for the present.

With A Touch of Paradise, she focuses on English-language songs by Kurt Weill, Friedrich Hollaender, and Walter Jurmann—composers who had to leave Europe and start a new artistic life in the USA. Songs combining European sophistication with American drive were created on Broadway and in Hollywood.

Together with her jazz quartet, Ethel Merhaut reinterprets these songs and invites the audience on a modern journey through time.
