Joe McPhee, now 85 years old, is a living legend. He had his breakthrough in the late 1960s, playing alongside Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry, and is now one of the last great African-American saxophonists from this phase of jazz. Like no other, he is able to make the saxophone speak—from whispers to screams, he masters every register!

Swell, who was a guest in Villach last month, is also a shining star in the music world: he has often been voted Trombonist of the Year by various music magazines! He has been with us several times, and his performances at the CIMPosium and in a trio with Brötzmann and Nilssen-Love are unforgettable!

Ukrainian Tokar on bass and Kugel on drums create a dense, majestic, and powerfully driving rhythmic foundation!
