Friedemann Dähn Trio

Friedemann Dähn: cello, elecronics
Carsten Netz : reeds, electronics
Bernd Settelmeyer: drums, percussion

Three musicians, an open sonic space: This trio moves with effortless ease between contemporary jazz, free improvisation, and experimental sound art. Their music emerges from the moment—energetic, groovy, and full of surprising twists. Structure and freedom are in constant dialogue, and clear musical ideas repeatedly open up in unexpected directions.

The music is intense and energetic, yet groovy and infused with a subtle, often surprising sense of humor. Composition and improvisation intertwine organically: structure meets spontaneity, and clear forms open up to free developments. The interplay among the three musicians is characterized by immediate interaction, great sensitivity, and a deep joy in playing. Every musical idea is taken up, developed further, or deliberately contrasted—thus creating vibrant sonic spaces that unfold in the moment.

The cello plays a central role here, used in ways that go far beyond its traditional function. It is played by bowing, plucking, striking, or rubbing, and takes on varying roles as a melodic, bass, or rhythmic instrument. In combination with the colorful spectrum of woodwinds and the multi-layered, often surprising percussion, an extraordinary soundscape emerges that is as experimental as it is accessible. The trio invites the audience to embark on a musical journey centered on curiosity, openness, and immediate experience.
