GeoGeMa is improvisation based on programmatic islands
is an exploration of microintervals
is both structured and free, with an exhilarating pulse

One of Austria’s most esteemed and versatile saxophonists is performing with his passion project. Gerald Preinfalk has brought pianist Georg Vogel (who can also be heard playing his homemade microtonal keyboards) and Brazilian drummer Matheus Jardim into his new band, GeoGeMa. The starting point for the pieces—most of which emerge from free interaction—are sheets of A4 paper on which, according to Preinfalk, “the instructions for springboards to improvisational flights of fancy are noted in condensed form.” The result—which is both highly compact and multi-layered—combined with the three musicians’ strong, distinct profile, makes GeoGeMa one of the most interesting trios currently performing in Austria.
